Nottingham as a Core City
Where are we?
A year ago the Greater Nottingham Partnership published Drawing Together, the development strategy for our city and its region.
We identified seven areas that needed urgent action:
- Leadership
- Economic diversity
- Innovation
- Skills
- Connections
- Quality of life
- Physical regeneration
The Greater Nottingham Partnership is the sum of its partners' activity. These themes were identified after extensive consultation with the public, private, voluntary and community sectors right around the city region.
Everyone was honest about the challenges - a conurbation that is served by six local authorities; an ambiguous position within the East Midlands; a proliferation of partnerships; an economy that could easily stay low skills, low pay.
Equally, everyone was excited by our opportunities: becoming a Core City - one of eight that the Government expects to lead a regional renaissance; two prestigious universities; joint ventures like BioCity; our designation as a Science City; an engaged business community that supports public plans. All of these gave us hope that we could reach our true potential.
